"'23 Produzenten choppen 19 Schallplatten' – während eines Jahres zirkulierte ein Koffer mit 19 Schallplatten bei 23 Produzenten von Home Street Home Records und dem nahen Umfeld. Es kamen 60 Tracks zustande. Alle aus dem gleichen Ausgangsmaterial; alle verschieden."

Last November, I have received a small vinyl record box, containing 19 records – the task: to compose one or more beats, by sampling exclusively these 19 records. The box has been passed on from beatmaker to beatmaker for the period of almost a year and eventually, the initiators collected all the resulting beats and released at the beginning of May 2015 a comprehensive digital and a slightly more selective physical (CD) compilation called "87Trees".
I had the privilege to contribute one beat:
I composed it November/December 2014, while I was also scoring a silent film (George Méliès' Le voyage à travers l'impossible, F 1904) for a festival (IOIC) for which I almost exclusively used soft 1980s soul music. So, for the 87Trees-project, I was aiming to create a loud, aggressive prog-rock-cacophony of a beat – and I think at least the cacophony-part, I got right!
For 'Panopsy', I've sampled almost all of the 19 records and I've used exclusively stand alone samplers - an Akai MPC200XL & MPC2500, BOSS SP-303 and a ROLAND SP-404SX.
The result is a mazy composition, full of soundbits and little samples, maybe lacking a dynamic appeal - but working on it, was a lot of fun! Thanks again to the guys from Home Street Home Records and all the other participants.
